AAL is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Naomi McClure-Griffiths as AAL Board Chair. Naomi has served on the AAL Board since 2016, and replaces Professor Rachel Webster as Chair.

AAL would like to thank Rachel for her hard work and dedication during her three-year tenure as Board Chair. Her expertise and willingness to give her time graciously to the role has been greatly valued by AAL. Rachel will continue to serve as a member of the AAL Board.

26/2: CSIRO’s ASKAP and ESO’s APEX telescopes team up to reveal gas outflow in the SMC

In a new ESO blog post, Dr Enrico Di Teodoro and AAL Board member Prof. Naomi McClure-Griffiths describe how they used the combined power of CSIRO’s ASKAP and ESO’s APEX telescopes to reveal how much gas escapes from the Small Magellanic Cloud galaxy.

24/2: Blanco Telescope (CTIO) Call for Proposals – Semester 2020B

AAL is pleased to announce a new Call for Proposals on the Blanco Telescope for observations in Semester 2020B (August 2020 – January 2021). 

​The deadline for the proposals is 23 March 2020, at 17:00 AEDT. 
Proposals for Blanco time to the Australian Time Allocation Committee (ATAC) must follow the ATAC Policies and Procedures and be submitted before the deadline using the Lens proposal form, selecting "CTIO 4m" from the telescopes menu on the first page. All graded proposals will be provided to CTIO for scheduling.

See the last NOAO 2020A Call for Proposals for information about the available nights and instruments. The NOAO 2020B Call for Proposals is due for release 01-Mar-2020 (MST; UTC-7:00) with the updated information for Semester 2020B.

14/2: AAT Call for Proposals – Semester 2020B

AAL is pleased to announce a new Call for Proposals at the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) for observations in Semester 2020B (August 2020 – February 2021). 

​The deadline for the proposals is 16 March 2020, at 17:00 AEDT. 
Proposals to the Australian Time Allocation Committee (ATAC) must follow the 
ATAC Policies and Procedures and be submitted before the deadline using the Lens proposal form. 

Australian proposals may seek either Open Time or Paid Time on the AAT. Open Time is only available to Australian proposals with at least half of the proposers and the lead proposer based at Australian institutions.

​Enquiries regarding the terms and conditions for AAT Paid Time can be made to 
Astronomy Australia Limited.
